About SUGAR
What is SUGAR (Sustainability Guidelines for Australian Repositories)? SUGAR was developed as a prototype information service providing practical guidelines based on international best practice. The service offered advice through links to recommended information sources. Topics included digital project planning, costs, digital conversion standards, copyright and searching. What is digital sustainability? Digital sustainability is all about ensuring that your content (e.g. images, sounds, video and text) remains accessible for as long as you want. Why is SUGAR needed? Although there is a lot of discussion about digital sustainability, most of it is occurring within communities that already understand the issues or have access to specialist knowledge. Who is SUGAR for? SUGAR was targeted toward people who may not be aware of issues surrounding digital sustainability. It also offered a practical starting point for those new to digitisation. Who created SUGAR? SUGAR was a partnership project of the Australian Partnership for Sustainable Repositories (APSR) and the University of Sydney Library. Rowan Brownlee developed content for the site. David Berriman created an application for managing and presenting content. When will SUGAR be available? The project was completed at the end of 2006. SUGAR is not currently being maintained and no new links have been added since September 2006.
